Porsche exec says “No” to baby Cayenne, again

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

According to our friends over at Motor Authority, Porsche exec Wendelin Wiedeking has officially denied the development of a cute ‘ute designed to slot in below the Cayenne. This news is contrary to last month’s report from Autobild that Porsche intended to share a platform with the upcoming Audi A5 and Volkswagen Tiguan, dubbing the stillborn model the “Roxster.” This most recent news confirms another story reported back in May.

Wiedeking used his opportunity at the podium today to dispel the rumor and to hype the upcoming sports sedan, the Panamera. However, no word from Wiedeking about a successor to the 928 that could conceivably share a platform with the front-engine, four-door sports car.

Porsche Makes New Phone

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Even Porsche lovers will readily acknowledge that the Cayenne is far from being the most beautiful creations ever penned by Stuttgart, so why on earth would anyone want to mimic the shape in any form? Someone in Hong Kong evidently thought otherwise and produced this (hopefully) limited-edition Porsche Cayenne mobile phone.

In addition to its unfortunate and ridiculous appearance, this handset packs in dual-band GSM, a micro-SD card slot, and support for video and music playback. It’ll cost you less than $200, plus any shred of good taste you might have retained if showing this unfortunate device off to your friends strikes you as a good idea.

This is why automakers license products and have input into their designs. Porsche is reportedly taking legal action against the manufacturer for copyright infringement, and we hope the automaker wins.

eBay Find of the Day: Porsche Cayenne limousine

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

by Chris Shunk

Not everybody goes to prom in a Town Car, the real Players hit the scene in an Escalade or H2. If you really want to be unique, you can make your entrance in this Porsche Cayenne stretch limo. Fourteen people can pile into this 170-inch super-stretch, which is complete with Mahogany bar, fiber optic lighting, 15-inch LCD at the partition, and 7-inch LCDs throughout. The reserve hasn’t been hit on this baby, and the price is already up to $45,300 as of post-time. If you’re looking to add this 340 HP Ute to your limo company, you can keep an eye on your investment with the included interior camera.

We Autobloggers are an unassuming bunch, but we wouldn’t mind hitting the New York auto show in this German luxury stretch.

Porsche puts diesel back on the table

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

by Sam Abuelsamid

Within the past month, Porsche has stated that it has no intention of installing diesel engines in itsvehicles and would instead focus on hybrids. The automaker has also threatened to pull out of the European market if new mandatory CO2 regulations go into effect. Now, Porsche research head Wolfgang Dürheimer is backtracking. Although he says that Porsche is not currently developing a diesel because it wouldn’t make sense for just one market, they are monitoring developments, and anything is possible in the future.

Porsche’s Martini Racing collection leaves us stirred, not shaken

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

by Noah Joseph

Martini Racing is easily among the most iconic motorsport sponsors of all time. Their instantly recognizable dark-blue, light-blue and red striping have appeared on Fords, Alfas, Lancias and just about everything else on the track, in the dirt and in the water. After several years’ hiatus, the Italian spirit and liquor brand made a comeback with a minor sponsorship of Scuderia Ferrari last year. Carlos Reutemann, Riccardo Patrese, Colin McRae, Mario Andretti and Michael Schumacher have all driven under the Martini Racing banner. But before all of them, Martini went with Porsche on the track like it goes with gin in the glass.

To commemorate (and capitalize on) the 35-year partnership between the two iconic companies, Porsche Design has graced us with a new line of merchandise. It includes t-shirts, polos, jackets, caps and belts with the distinctive Martini striping. Far from the usual standard issue with patches sewn on, the Porsche Design Martini Racing collection features unique designs and distinctive products that would make for a great addition to the collection of any Porschephile, vintage racing fanatic or style-conscious enthusiast.

Now who said that nostalgia isn’t what it used to be?

To view the complete collection, visit Porsche-Design.com.
For more information on Martini Racing, visit MartiniRacing.com (where they’ve got some great downloads for you, too).
