Brake Effectiveness an Issue on New Xterras

Friday, November 30th, 2007

images8.jpeg

Nissan North America, inc. announced this week that they will be recalling certain models of the 2008 Nissan Xterras due to brake effectiveness. On Certain Sport Utility Vehicles, the antilock brake system/vehicle dynamic control (ABS/VDC) actuator is designed with one ball in the valve section. Some ABS/VDC actuators were manufactured with more than one ball in the valve.

What can happen in ABS/VDC actuators with more than one ball, it is possible that fluid flow could be blocked and cause a reduction in brake force in one or both front wheels or Affect operation of the ABS AND/OR VDC. This could result in a reduction in brake effectiveness without warning increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall covers Xterras with the manufacturer dates of 10-19-07 thru 10-29-07. Dealers will replace the ABS/VDC actuator with a new one. the recall is expected to begin on or about Novembver 17, 2007. Owners may contact NISSAN at 1-800-647-7261.

Nissan Recalls 653,910 Sentras, Altimas to Fix Sensor

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

images3.jpeg

Nissan Motor Co. is expanding a U.S. recall of Sentra and Altima sedans to fix a faulty crankshaft sensor in 2002 and 2005-2006 models that may shut off the engine.

The recall covers about 653,910 vehicles with 2.5-liter engines, Tokyo-based Nissan told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in a Nov. 8 letter posted today on the agency’s Web site.

The sensor’s location may expose it to temperature variations that would interrupt signals it sends to the engine control module, the automaker said. Without the signals, the control module may shut off the engine in low-speed driving, Nissan said.

Nissan is “conducting a voluntary safety recall” and will notify customers starting Dec. 10, spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan in Herndon, Virginia, said in an e-mail. Nissan told NHTSA that the move widened a recall begun in August 2006.

Nissan’s American depositary receipts rose 5 cents to $20.44 at 3:59 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading.

Nissan recalls free mugs, not cars

Monday, September 10th, 2007

TOKYO: Japanese auto giant Nissan said Friday that it would recall thousands of free mugs it gave away in Japan this year, owing to fears they could make people ill.

Nissan will recall 142,523 tumblers because their lids contained more lead than the legal limited, a company statement said.

“Nissan received a call from one customer saying that he felt sick after drinking out of the tumbler,” it said.

Nissan recalls over 140,000 Altima sedans

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Another big recall to report. This time it’s Nissan and its bread-and-butter Altima sedan. Apparently, cars with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder have an air filter that can cause some serious problems. It seems that if something hot is sucked into the filter, like ashes from a cigarette, it can catch on fire. Four incidents have already been reported to Nissan. Notices started going out to some of the 140,000 2007 Altima owners last week. Besides replacing the air filter with a presumably less flammable one, Nissan will also add an air deflector to help prevent a potential accumulation of debris in the filter.

In all, 140,582 Altimas have been sold so far this year, making it Nissan’s best-selling vehicle, and the ninth-best seller overall in the States. The recall affects Smyrna, Tennessee cars made between Sept. 25 and May 11, as well as those built from Oct. 30 through May 11 at its Canton, Mississippi, factory.

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (日産自動車株式会社 Nissan Jidōsha Kabushiki-gaisha?) (TYO: 7201 , NASDAQ: NSANY) is a Japanese automobile manufacturer which formerly marketed vehicles under the Datsun brand name. The company’s main offices are located in the Ginza area of Chūō-ku, Tokyo but Nissan plans to move their headquarters to Yokohama, Kanagawa by 2010, with construction starting in 2007. In 1999, Nissan entered an alliance with Renault S.A. of France. Nissan is among the top three Asian rivals of the “big three” in the U.S. Currently they are the third largest Japanese car manufacturer.
The Nissan VQ engines, of V6 configuration, have featured among Ward’s 10 Best Engines for 12 straight years, since the award’s inception. A new generation VQ series engine premiered on the 2007 Infiniti G35, and the 2007 Nissan 350Z. A larger 3.7 will be used in the G37 coupe and possibly a twin turbocharged version on the Skyline.
Much like its brother Renault, the pronunciation of its name is different in different markets. In the U.S., the brand is said /ˈniːsɑn/, while in the UK it is pronounced /ˈnɪsən/. In Japan, it is pronounced /nisːãɴ/.

Chicago Preview: 2008 Nissan Armada

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

by Chris Shunk

Nissan’s gigunda Tahoe/Expedition fighter, the Armada, is also getting a visual cleanup for the Chicago Auto Show. Outside, the change is most evident in front, where a subtly reshaped grille and lower fascia opening freshen things up. “V8″ badging now adorns the SUV’s flanks as well. Otherwise, there are no monumental changes to speak of.

Head inside, however, and the changes are numerous and for the better. The instrument cluster receives all-new gauges which are better looking and probably more readable. The center stack has been completely redone, with cleaner integration for the nav screen, new radio and HVAC controls, and repositioned, reshaped supplemental buttons/knobs for things like the hazards. Wood (or simulated wood) trim has been added to the dashboard and from the looks of things, the door panels have been redesigned as well, with new armrests playing home to the window controls.
Other fun stuff available on the ‘08 Armada includes power-fold third-row seating (always nice), DVD nav, and Bluetooth integration. The interior updates (shown after the jump) really are the story though, as they’re a big improvement over the ‘07.
