Loss Of Power A Problem In The 2007 Mercedes E211

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

images10.jpeg

Mercedes Benz USA, LLC announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2007 E211. They stated that on certain passenger vehicles equipped with diesel engines, the crankshaft sensor could fail due to separation bond wires from the lead frame in the sensor. This results in an interruption in the electrical connection in the chip housing of the sensor.

When this happens, the vehicle may loose power rather than enter a limp home mode. In addition, the vehicle cannot be restarted after failure of the electrical connection in the sensor, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. The recall is expected to begin during February 2008. Owners may contact Mercedes Benz at 1-800-367-6372.

Mercedes-Benz To Recall 3 Supercars

Friday, January 11th, 2008

images7.jpeg

You pay a small fortune for a supercar and you think that nothing can go wrong with it, well you should think again as Mercedes-Benz are recalling three, yes that right just 3 of their MY 2007 SLR McLaren supercars. The reason for the recall is due to the windscreen not being installed properly.

It seems that at the time of the installation either the primer or activator was missing. The recall of the Mercedes-Benz 3 MY 2007 SLR McLaren supercars will start sometime this month, where the dealers will have to remove the windscreens, and then they will clean and reinstall them with the correct kind of primer and activator.

Let us hope that one of the three owners read this post and do not try and take their supercar up to its top speed, you don’t want your windshield blowing out.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz (sometimes shortened to just Mercedes, “Benz” or “Merc”) is a German brand name of automobiles, buses, coaches, and trucks owned by DaimlerChrysler AG. The Daimler-Benz company originated on June 28, 1926 when two companies, Benz & Cie. and Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG), the inventors of the automobile, merged. Karl Benz is credited as the inventor of the first ‘true’ automobile (patented in 1886) since Daimler’s was a horse carriage with an engine, whereas Benz’ had a chassis designed from scratch.
Established in 1871, Benz & Cie. was the most important of several companies founded by Karl Benz. DMG was founded by Gottlieb Daimler and his partner Wilhelm Maybach in 1890, but Daimler died in 1900 and Maybach left DMG in 1907, by which time the two companies were rivals. In 1924, owing to economic necessity after World War One, they entered into an “Agreement of Mutual Interest” (valid until the year 2000), however, this initial agreement still allowed each company to manufacture and sell their products under their original brand names. It was only after the 1926 official merger, that the brand Mercedes-Benz was created and used.
Mercedes-Benz is the brand name applied to the models of one of the premier automotive manufacturers in the world and, because of its tie to Karl Benz, it is also the name of the world’s oldest continuously produced automobile line. In 1926 when the new company, Daimler-Benz was established through merger, a new logo also was created that would include a symbol for each and integrate the names of the two former companies. A three-pointed star had been designed by Gottlieb Daimler, to show the ability of his motors for land, air, and sea use. This star first appeared on a DMG model in 1909, so it was chosen for the new logo. However the brand name Daimler had been licensed for use on other automobiles (in France and the United Kingdom), so the name of its seminal Mercedes model was chosen for the DMG portion of the logo. The traditional laurel symbol of Karl Benz was added along with his name to complete the new logo. The logo with a plain ring, as seen today, was not used until 1937.
Mercedes-Benz automobiles have introduced — both in the past and present — the majority of technological and safety features (see details below). It was in 1998, when Daimler-Benz and Chrysler agreed to combine their businesses — known as the “merger of equals”, that a new entity, DaimlerChrysler AG was created. On May 14, 2007, the separation of Daimler and Chrysler was announced.

Mercedes-Benz releases glut of info on SLR McLaren 722 Edition

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Ace F1 driver Fernando Alonso already counts one as his company car, but we mere mortals will most likely never own one of the new Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Editions that are earmarked for production. Though we’ve known about the special edition model for some time, Mercedes decided to release a ton of info and pics of the car over the weekend. It chose the prosperous Middle Eastern mecca of Dubai to “premier” the car, which is fitting since many of them will likely end up in a shiek’s garage on a man-made island. Hopefully that shiek will take his 722 out on the smooth asphalt of Dubai’s public roadways and open her up, as Mercedes and McLaren have improved the car over the “base” SLR in over 300 ways. The most significant upgrade is in horsepower, which jumps from 617 to 650 in the SLR 722. That 5.5L supercharged V8 can now propel the SLR 722 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, down from 3.8. Top speed? Was 207.5 mph. Now it’s 209.4. Hey, every little bit helps when Alonso’s trying to get to the track on time.

Follow the jump for MB’s full press release on the McLaren SLR 722 Edition that details every modification made to the brand’s halo car. We’ve also assembled a high-resolution gallery for the 48 new pics MB released.
