2008 MERCEDES BENZ GL Recall

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

images6.jpeg

Mercedes Benz is recalling certain models of the 2006-2008 GL and ML class vehicles equipped with a trailer hitch. Some of the weld seams connecting the trailer hitch receiver to the attachment bar used to secure the trailer to the body frame do not meet perfarmance specifications.

This may result in the trailer hitch receiver separating from the attachment bar, creating a road hazard which may lead to a vehicle crash. The trailer hitch must not be used for any purpose until it has been repaired.

Dealers will repair the trailer hitch. The recall is expected to begin in June of 2008. Owners may contact Mercedes Benz at 1-800-367-6372.

Mercedes-Benz Recalls Problematic Cars From China

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

Mercedes-Benz China has submitted a report to General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China in which it says it will recall about 1483 S-Class W/V221 Sedan cars from the Chinese market starting in June for a signal and actuation module problem.

The batch of S-Class Sedan cars were made between October 2007 and November 2007 and 1483 of them have been sold in the Chinese market. Mercedes-Benz China says it will replace the components free of charge so as to eliminate any possible future failure.

In 2006, due to the risk of fuel exosmosis, Mercedes-Benz recalled about 23677 S-Class W220 Sedans from China.

According to Chinese media, the selling of the S-Class cars in China has not been affected at all, despite the recall. Instead, the price of the most of them is on the increase.

The S-Class Sedan is a flagship car made by Mercedes-Benz. Due to import quota limits, there is not an adequate supply of the cars in China, and this is probably the reason for the price increase.

Mercedes Recalls The 2007 GLX164

Friday, February 1st, 2008

images.jpeg

Mercedes Benz USA, LLC. announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2007 GLX164. They stated that on certain passenger vehicles equipped wit diesel engines, the crankshaft sensor could fail due to a separation of bond wires from the lead frame in the sensor. This results in an interruption in the electrical connection in the chip housing of the sensor.

When this happens, the vehicle may loose power rather than enter a limp home mode. In addition, the vehicle cannot be restarted after failure of the electrical connection in the sensor, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. The recall is expected to begin during Febuary 2008. Owners may contact Mercedes Benz at 1-800-367-6372.

images15.jpeg

Mercedes-Benz is recalling as many as 9,004 diesel-powered M-Class, GL-Class, R-Class and E-Class vehicles for possible crankshaft sensor problems.

The M-Class, GL-Class and R-Class are produced at the German automaker’s Vance assembly plant.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the problem could cause the vehicle to lose power. In addition, the vehicle cannot be restarted after the failure of the electrical connection in the sensor, increasing the possibility of a crash, the agency said on its Web site, www.nhtsa.gov.

The recall, which is expected to begin in February, covers 2007 models. Dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. Affected models include the E211, GLX164, M164 and R251.

Daimler Recalls Diesel Cars In United States

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

images14.jpeg

German carmaker Daimler, which has joined a push to convince US motorists to drive diesel cars, said Tuesday it was recalling an unspecified number to fix an engine part. A spokesman in Stuttgart said 2007 M-Class, GL-Class and R-Class cars as well as the E 320 Bluetec model were affected.

He declined to confirm a report in a German weekly, Automobilwoche, which quoted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) saying about 9,000 cars were involved.

A crankshaft sensor in the cars could cause a loss of power and in some case the engines would not start.
Currently only 6 per cent of cars sold in the United States are diesel powered, with many shoppers convinced hybrid power from Japanese makers offers better fuel savings than the thrifty diesels.
