Automobili-Lamborghini S.p.A., commonly referred to as simply Lamborghini is an Italian manufacturer of high performance sports cars based in the small Italian village of Sant’Agata Bolognese, near Bologna. Lamborghini is now a subsidiary of German car manufacturer Audi AG, which is in turn a subsidiary of Volkswagen.[1] [2] Lamborghini is the main counterpart to Ferrari in the Italian sports car business. The Italian company was founded in 1963 by businessman Ferruccio Lamborghini (April 28, 1916–February 20, 1993), who owned a successful tractor factory, Lamborghini Trattori S.p.A..The Lamborghini group also produce the Lambogghini-Skema V-12 8,2L that is the engine to beat in offshore racing”Motori Marini Lamborghini” which is used by Spirit of Norway that won the title 6 times and there closest competitor Victory from U.A.E. Lamborghini earns first motorsports win in FIA GT

Monday, March 26th, 2007

While its sister ship struggled a bit, the #7 All-Inkl Racing Lamborghini Murcièlago R-GT ran strong all race, and managed to grab Lamborghini’s first international racing trophy in its maiden outing. Drivers Christophe Bouchut and Stefan Mücke held off a pair of hard-charging Z06 Corvettes at Zhuhai International Circuit, with all three finishing within four seconds of each other.

The race not only marked the debut of the R-GT, but also of the FIA’s new GT race format. For the 2007 season, GT races follow a new two-hour format that appears to have given organizers what they had hoped for – some really close racing. A late safety car deployment meant that pit strategy ended up being pretty important in this one, but that shouldn’t take anything away from Lamborghini’s impressive debut. After the final restart they rattled off a string of fastest laps to stay ahead for good. Kudos to Lambo. Check out the cool gallery available at Supercars.net by following the links.

Lamborghini Alar 777 puts the bull under the knife

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

by John Neff

We’ll admit right off the bat that we can’t tell you much about this car, called the Lamborghini Alar 777. Apparently an Argentinian by the name of Joan Ferci has somehow acquired exclusive rights to build custom Lamborghinis that retain the Italian marque’s historic name and feature an official badge of the raging bull on the front end. He’s created a pair of models in the past called the Coatl and the Eros GT-1, both based off of the Diablo. The Alar 777 will be the third model produced off of the Diablo platform and debut on March 30th in Buenos Aires. The car will produce over 700 horsepower from the Diablo’s V12 motor and reached a claimed top speed of 223 mph. All we have at the moment is this computer rendering of the Lamborghini Alar 77 courtesy of Argentina Auto Blog, which has us wondering how many times Ferruccio Lamborghini will roll in his grave when this thing officially debuts.

The Spiga: Lambo Gallardo rendered more gracefully

Monday, February 26th, 2007

by Chris Tutor

While we had few problems with how Lamborghini’s Gallardo looked, 22-year-old Urgur Sahin apparently thought it needed improving. Several hours of 3D modeling produced Sahin’s Lamborghini Spiga Concept. While many CGI improvement projects go overboard and barely resemble the original vehicle, Sahin has taken the Gallardo and smoothed out its less than graceful rear cooling vents and has better integrated the fender vents into the body lines. The greatest improvement, however, could be the rear bumper. Where blocky taillights originally matched shape and size with equally blocky vents, the Spiga utilizes a more curvaceous rear panel with Vanquish-style lamps. The Spiga’s exhaust is reminiscent of recent Ford concepts that have almost hidden the pipes within chrome-ringed outlets. Check out the rear shot after the jump.

Spiga, according to Sahin’s website, means spike in Italian (though Google translated it to mean “ear,” go figure). The moniker refers to the new design’s roof, which comes to a spike-like point. That part we can take or leave, but we’re digging those Countach-style wheels.

Sahin’s website has even more high-res photos of his concept as well as additional samples from his 3D modeling portfolio.

Super-rare Lamborghini finds a new home

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

lambo_miura_roadster.jpg
For the 1968 Brussels Motor Show, legendary design house Bertone took the wraps off of the Lamborghini Miura Roadster. The Miura, one of the earliest exotic supercars, was first unveiled at Turin in 1965 with a body designed by Nuccio Bertone, so who better than him to chop off the roof? Like other Lambo roadsters since, the Bertone Miura was really more of a targa, only while the modern-day Murcielago Roadster’s roof might be a pain and a half to put up, at least it has a roof. Bertone’s Miura Roadster never had one at all.

While the design was copied by many, only one authentic example was ever produced. The roadster version of the Miura never saw production, and the prototype was sold to a metal consortium as a publicity showcase. It changed hands several times since then, at one time joining the collection at the Boston Museum of Transportation. Now it’s fallen into the hands of one lucky collector by the name of Adam Gordon, who recently purchased the prototype raging bull for an undisclosed sum. The New York real estate developer is undertaking a two-year restoration project to bring it back up to original spec.

You can bet Gordon paid big for this car, hailed as the rarest Lamborghini of all time, and will have spent even more by the time the restoration is complete.
