Hyundai Issues Recall Over Labels

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Hyundai has announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2007 and 2008 Santa Fe SUV’s. The recall is over a incorrect certification label. The label lists the wrong gross axle weight ratings on vehicles equipped with 18 inch wheels and tires.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says overloading the affected vehicles could cause tire failure. Overloading of the vehicle could adversely affect the handling and braking and could result in tire damage and a crash without warning.

The incorrect label is located on the drivers side center pillar. Hyundai will mail corrected labels and instructions to affected owners. The owners may replace the labels themselves, or have a dealer install them for them free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in August 2008. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.

Hyundai Issues Recall For The Sonata

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Hyundai Motor Co. said Tuesday it was recalling 393,714 Sonata passenger cars in the United States to fix a problem with the air bag system in the front passenger seat.
The automaker said the recall affects 2006-2008 Sonata vehicles equipped with an advanced air bag system. The system disables the front passenger seat’s front air bag when it detects the presence of a child restraint system or a small child in the seat.
The right front air bag is disabled to prevent injuries to a child that could result from the air bag inflating during a crash.
Hyundai said it received some complaints that the system was misclassifying a small adult as a child and shutting off the passenger air bag. The automaker said the misclassification would prevent the air bag from inflating in a crash, potentially leading to an injury to the passenger.
Hyundai spokesman Miles Johnson said the company was not aware of any injuries and was conducting the recall to “ensure the safety for our customers.”
Dealers will evaluate the air bag system and the make any necessary repairs. The recall is expected to begin in late May.
For more information, owners can contact Hyundai at (800) 633-5151.

2008 HYUNDAI SANTA FE

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Hyundai Motor Company announced that they are recalling certain models of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe. Hyundai is recalling 3,387 trailer hitch wiring harnesses either included with a trailer hitch or sold as a service part manufactured by Thule towing systems and distributed by Hyundai for installation on the 2007-2008 Santa Fe and Veracruz vehicles. The accesory trailer hitch wiring harness converter module is mounted on the top surface of the rear bumper reinforcement. High current leakage or a short circuit of capacitor C1 could cause heat related damage to the wiring harness converter module

Excessive heat may cause damage to the rear bumper area and may potentially result in a fire. Hyundai will notify owners and will replace the trailer hitch wiring harness free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during Febuary 2008. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.

Hyundai Motor Company

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

The Hyundai Motor Company (hangul:현대자동차), a division of the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, is South Korea’s largest and the world’s Sixth Largest Automaker.[1] It is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. In Ulsan, South Korea Hyundai operates the world’s largest integrated automobile manufacturing facility which is capable of producing 1.6 million units annually. The Hyundai logo, a slanted, stylized ‘H’, is symbolic of two people (the company and customer) shaking hands and its official global tagline slogan is “Drive your way”.
Hyundai means “modernity” in Korean.

Chung Ju-Yung founded the Hyundai Engineering and Construction Company in 1947. Hyundai Motor Company was later established in 1967. The company’s first model, the Cortina, was released in cooperation with Ford Motor Company in 1968. In 1975, the Pony, the first Korean car, was released, with styling by Giorgio Giugiaro of ItalDesign and powertrain technology provided by Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors. Exports began in the following year to Ecuador and soon thereafter to the Benelux countries. In 1991, the company succeeded in developing its first proprietary gasoline engine, the four-cylinder Alpha, and transmission, thus paving the way for technological independence.
In 1986, Hyundai began to sell cars in the United States, and the Excel was nominated “Best Product #10″ by Fortune magazine, largely because of its affordability. The company began to produce models with its own technology in 1988, beginning with the midsize Sonata.
In 1998, Hyundai began to overhaul its image in an attempt to establish itself as a world-class brand. Chung Ju Yung transferred leadership of Hyundai Motor to his son, Chung Mong Koo, in 1999. [2] Hyundai’s parent company, Hyundai Motor Group, invested heavily in the quality, design, manufacturing, and long-term research of its vehicles. It added a 10-year or 100,000 mile warranty to cars sold in the United States and launched an aggressive marketing campaign.
In 2004, Hyundai was ranked second in “initial quality” in a survey/study by J.D. Power and Associates. Hyundai is now one of the top 100 most valuable brands worldwide. Since 2002, Hyundai has also been one of the worldwide official sponsors of the FIFA World Cup.
In 2006, the South Korean government initiated an investigation of Chung Mong Koo’s practices as head of Hyundai, suspecting him of corruption. On April 28, 2006, Chung was arrested, and charged for embezzlement of 100 billion won (US$106 million), [3] with Hyundai Vice Chairman and CEO, Kim Dong-jin taking over as head of the company.
