2008 HONDA PILOT Recall

Friday, February 29th, 2008

images17.jpeg

American Honda Motor Company announced that they will be recalling certain 2008 Honda Pilots. Honda is recalling 2032 hitch style bike racks sold as aftermarket for use on my 2003 through 2007 and some my 2008 Honda Pilot, Ridgeline, and Acura MDX vehicles. A pinch bolt exists between the bike arm bracket and the upright assembly of the “hitch” style bicycle rack.

When moving the bike arm bracket to its down postion, this pinch bolt has the potential of causing severe laceration or amputation to the users fingertips or hand. Owners should contact Thule at 1-800-Thule91 (1-800-848-5391) to obtain a free repair kit along with repair instructions or owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or Acura at 1-800-382-2238 for further information.

2008 Honda FIT Recall

Monday, February 4th, 2008

images1.jpeg

American Honda Motor Company has announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2008 Honda FIT. They stated that on certain vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of Connecticut, Deleware, Illinios, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvainia, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. The wire harness of the occupant detection system (ODS) and the occupant position detection system (OPDS) is routed underneath the carpet on the drivers side floorboard. In areas where road salt is used, salt from the snow on the drivers shoes will melt and it may penetrate the carpet and leak into the wire harness. If the harness is exposed to salt brine, corrosion may occur and the wire may break causing the SRS indicator light to illuminate. A failure of the ODS and OPDS may not detect the presence of a child seat or an out of position passenger and deployment of both front seat passengers frontal and side air bags will not be supressed.

In the event of a crash, a deploying front passenger air bag or front passengers side air bag will increase the risk of injury to small or out of postion occupants. Dealers will inspect and replace the wire harness. The recall began on December 12, 2007. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.

Acura Recalls 2005-’08 RLs for Faulty Power Steering Hose

Friday, December 21st, 2007

images13.jpeg

American Honda has announced that they will be recalling roughly 43,000 Japan Built Acura RL sedans sold in the US because a defective power steering hose could lead to a fire. The recall is expected to start this week and will affect Acura RL’s from 2005 through 2008 model years.

“On certain passenger vehicles, prolonged high underhood temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely, causing the hose to crack and leak power steering fluid,” said the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration in its recall summary of the Acura RL. “Power steering fluid leaking onto a hot catalytic converter will generate smoke and possibly lead to an underhood fire.”

No injuries or fires have resulted from the faulty hose. Honda dealers will install a new heat-resistant power steering hose free of charge. Owners can contact Honda at (800) 382-2238.

Problems Arise on the 2008 Ridgeline

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

American Honda Motor Company has announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2008 Honda Ridgeline. They stated that on certain vehicles, the hole in the sheet metal front bulkhead that serves as the base and pivot for the hood support rod was not punched to specification. The hood support rod may fail to hold the hood in position due to insufficient strength.

If the hood support rod fails, the hood could fail increasing the risk of injury. This recall covers vehicles with the manufacturer dates of 10/18/07 thru 10/30/07. Dealers will inspect the prop rod base hole and, if necessary, install reinforcement parts free of charge. Honda has telephoned all owners on November 26 2007, asking them to bring their vehicles in to their dealers for inspection. A followup letter will be mailed during January 2008. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.

Honda to Launch Fuel-Cell Car in U.S. Next Year

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

images.jpg

According to Auto Industry, Honda has stated that it will launch the first commercial fuel cell car starting next year, in the U.S. and Japan.

The car will be based on the FCX prototype that Honda’s been showing around auto shows. The newest model–the FCV–will be shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 14 (so stay tuned).

The FCV will feature a lithium-ion battery pack. And Honda has already gained all the necessary government certifications, including having passed crash-safety tests and, of course, emissions. In fact, they’ve already leased the FCX to two customers, making Honda the first manufacturer to have done so at all.

We don’t know yet what the FCV will look like, however.

Honda recalls faulty Civics

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

images3.jpg

NEW DELHI: Japanese auto giant Honda which is recalling over 1.8 lakh units of its luxury sedan Civic globally on Sunday said it was studying whether the model sold in India too had defective seal before deciding on the same strategy here.

“We have recieved a notice for a global recall. As far as we are concerned in India, we are not sure if this would affect here. However, when we get more details we will be able to take a call on it,” Honda Siel Car India senior general manager (marketing) Jnaneswar Sen said.

Honda had issued a recall notice of 1,82,756 Civics made between March 24, 2005 and February 8, 2007 due to a faulty wheel-bearing seal that may leak and cause malfunctioning of brake switch thereby preventing illumination of lights on braking.

Sen said that the company’s Civic model recalled in the US were left hand drives and the company was checking if similar problems could be found in the Indian right hand drive models . “If we find there are issues, then we will be definitely contacting our customers,” he added. If the company does recall its Civic, it will be the second instance in three months. In July, HSCI had recalled 2,310 Accords manufactured between 2005 and 2006 as part of a global recall.

Moves like these, global phenomenon earlier , have started affecting Indian consumers too with instances of toy and electronic goods recalls in recent weeks.
