Ford has announced that they are recalling certain models of the 1995 through 2003 Windstar, 2000 through 2003 Excursion, 1993 through 1997 and 1999 through 2003 F Super Duty, 1992 through 2003 Econoline, 1995 through 2002 Explorer and Mercury Mountainer, 1995 through 1997 and 2001 through 2003 Ranger, and 1994 F53 vehicles equipped with the Texas Instruments speed control deactivation switch (SCDS). They stated that the SCDS may leak internally and then over heat, smoke, and burn.
A vehicle fire could occur. Ford will notify owners and dealers will install a fused wiring harness for the SCDS. Dealers will also inspect the ABS control connector and repair as necessary. Repairs will be completed free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or about October26, 2009. Owners may contact Ford at 1-888-222-2751.
