Airtex has announced that it is recalling certain aftermarket fuel pumps, P/N E3944M, produced from January 2005 through July 2009, sold for use on 1997 Saturn vehicles. They stated that the fuel return line and the fuel vent line are reversed.
In the event that a vehicle with the subject fuel pump is involved in a rollover crash with a full or over full fuel tank, the fuel could drain from the tank into the engine compartment, possibly resulting ina fire. Airtex will notify owners and replace the fuel pump with a pump that has been correctly manufactured free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during August 2009.
