Polaris Industries has announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2008 550 LX Trail Touring and Trail Touring Deluxe snowmobiles. They stated that cracks could form in the starter ring gear and cause the ring gear to fracture into several peices. The peices could be propelled out of the chasis at high speed causing serious injury or death to the rider and or bystanders.
The recall covers 550 LS’s sold at Polaris dealerships from May 2007 to June 2008. Owners should contact a Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair. Owners may contact Polaris at 1-888-704-5290 or visit the company’s website at www.polarisindustries.com.
