Hyundai has announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2007 and 2008 Santa Fe SUV’s. The recall is over a incorrect certification label. The label lists the wrong gross axle weight ratings on vehicles equipped with 18 inch wheels and tires.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says overloading the affected vehicles could cause tire failure. Overloading of the vehicle could adversely affect the handling and braking and could result in tire damage and a crash without warning.
The incorrect label is located on the drivers side center pillar. Hyundai will mail corrected labels and instructions to affected owners. The owners may replace the labels themselves, or have a dealer install them for them free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in August 2008. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151.
