50,000 Recalls For The UK

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

More than 50,000 commercial vehicles were recalled in the second half of 2007, one-fifth of which were heavy trucks. Iveco was the subject of four campaigns, the largest of which affected 10,117 Eurocargos. There was a possibility that the contacts in the cab wiring loom may oxidise and cause overheating of the connector block. In the worst case scenario this might have caused a fire.

And just over 3,000 Eurocargos needed their steering column shaft checked, and if necessary replaced, in order to prevent potential steering failure. The same defect and remedy resulted in the recall of 509 Iveco Stralis trucks. The exhaust silencer bolting mounts had to be checked, and where necessary replaced, on 151 Iveco Eurotrakker and Stralis models.
A total of 3,358 Scania P- and R-Series trucks were recalled, and where necessary their track-rod end-clamp nuts and bolts were replaced. Another 1,293 other Scanias (various models) required attention to the mounting rail, which connects the 24v supply between the chassis and cab. There was a fear that it might have been incorrectly torqued, resulting in a build-up of heat.
Close to 500 Seddon Atkinsons required dealer attention because of the possibility that contacts in the cab wiring loom may oxidize and cause overheating of the connector block. In the worst case it could have resulted in a fire. A further 151 were recalled because an incorrect length of steering column shaft might have been fitted.
Volvo’s most significant recall affected 276 FMs and FHs - which required attention to prevent bolts becoming loose on their brake calliper bridges. The largest LCV recall affected LDV Maxus owners, with 21,249 returning to the dealer to rectify a possible incorrect assembly of the rear axle hub. Some 8,686 Fiat Ducatos were recalled, either to eradicate the risk of the windscreen wiper motor failing, or to prevent the steering from becoming stiff.

GMC Recalls 2008 C4500’s

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

General Motors Corp. announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2008 C4500’s. They stated that on certain intermotive wheelchair lift interlock, P/NO. ILIS605-H3 ILIS activation kit (interlock option for gateway 401) sold for use as aftermarket for 2005-2008 Chevy 560 (C4500 and C5500 Kodiak) 6.6L diesel vehicles which a protective diode was used. The diode can be exposed to voltage spikes greater than what it can withstand. The diode could fail, which could prevent vehicle interlock operation when a wheelchair lift is deployed.

Should the diode fail, it will be possible to move the vehicle with the wheelchair deployed, which could result in injury to anyone using the lift. Intermotive will notify owners and repair the vehicles free of charge. The recall began on November 20, 2007. Owners can contact Intermotive toll free at 1-800-969-6080. This recall only pertains to aftermarket Intermotive wheelchair lifts no relation to any original equipment installed on Chevrolet and GMC vehicles manufactured by General Motors.

Daimler Recalls Diesel Car Models In US

Monday, January 28th, 2008

images18.jpeg

German carmaker Daimler, which has joined a push to convince US motorists to drive diesel cars, said it was recalling an unspecified number to fix an engine part.

A spokesman in Stuttgart said 2007 M-Class, GL-Class and R-Class cars as well as the E 320 Bluetec model were affected.

He declined to confirm a report in a German weekly, Automobilwoche, which quoted the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) saying about 9,000 cars were involved.

A crankshaft sensor in the cars could cause a loss of power and in some case the engines would not start.

Currently only six per cent of cars sold in the United States are diesel powered, with many shoppers convinced hybrid power from Japanese makers offers better fuel savings than the thrifty diesels.

Volkswagen Recalls 27,000 Golfs

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Volkswagen AG, Europe’s largest carmaker, is recalling 27,000 Golf station wagons and Jetta sedans in Europe to fix a fault with the heater.

The cars, which all have Volkswagen’s TDI diesel engine, were built in the second half of 2007 and the beginning of this year, Christian Buhlmann, a Volkswagen spokesman, said today in a telephone interview.

The power supply for the vehicles’ supplementary heater was in some cases improperly mounted, leading to overheating and a malfunction of the system, Buhlmann said. The cars have supplementary heaters because the diesel engine doesn’t provide enough heat to warm the interior.

Wolfsburg, Germany-based Volkswagen has written owners asking them to bring their cars to a mechanic. The repair takes 30 minutes and is free.

Fuel Leak Problems In The 2007 Tundra

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

images16.jpeg

Toyota Motor Corporation announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2007 Toyota Tundra. They stated that on certain 4 wheel drive pickup trucks, due to the improper heat treatment of the slip yokes that had been reworked during the manufacturing process, the hardness of the slip yoke may be insufficient.

In this condition, there is a possibility that the yoke may break causing the propeller shaft to seperate at the joint and come into contact with the road surface or the fuel tank which could result in a loss of vehicle control or a fuel leak.

Dealers will inspect the slip yoke and replace the propeller shaft if necessary free of charge. The recall is expected to begin during January 2008. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

Alabama Vehicles Part Of Benz Recall

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

images15.jpeg

Mercedes-Benz is recalling as many as 9,004 diesel-powered M-Class, GL-Class, R-Class and E-Class vehicles for possible crankshaft sensor problems.

The M-Class, GL-Class and R-Class are produced at the German automaker’s Vance assembly plant.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the problem could cause the vehicle to lose power. In addition, the vehicle cannot be restarted after the failure of the electrical connection in the sensor, increasing the possibility of a crash, the agency said on its Web site, www.nhtsa.gov.

The recall, which is expected to begin in February, covers 2007 models. Dealers will replace the crankshaft sensor. Affected models include the E211, GLX164, M164 and R251.
