Electrical Issues Push Porsche to Issue Recall

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

Porsche Cars North America, INC announced that they will be recalling certain models of the 2008 Porsche 911 GT3. They stated that on certain 2 door coupe vehicles, the switch console for the Porsche active suspension management (PASM) and the traction control (TC-OFF) switches was inappropriately installed. The LEDs in the switches can signal a functional change in the PASM mode or the deactivation of traction control even though the switches are not actuated.

If the traction control or active stability management system are inadvertently disabled, and the subsequent warning lamp illumination in the instrument panel on board computer is unnoticed by the driver, the safety benefits of these systems would be unavailable to the driver which could increase the possibility of a crash during aggressive driving maneuvers.

Dealers will replace the switch console free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule for this campaign. Owners may contact Porsche at 1-800-767-7243.

Safety Commission Recalls Snowmobiles

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

images12.jpeg

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission on Wednesday recalled about 480 Ski-Doo snowmobiles made by Canada’s Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. because of a crash hazard.

The commission has recalled Ski-Doo model year 2008 MXZ X 600 RS snowmobiles sold at Ski-Doo dealers nationwide during November for about $9,500. A defect in the carburetor can prevent the throttle from returning to the idle position, the commission said, which can result in an unexpected loss of control leading to collision. There have been three reports of snowmobiles with stuck throttles. No injuries have been reported.

Consumers are advised to stop using the vehicles and to contact any Ski-Doo retailer for a free repair.

Chrysler Korea to Recall 467 Sebring Sedans

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

images11.jpeg

The South Korean unit of U.S. carmaker Chrysler LLC will recall 467 Sebring sedans sold here because of a defect that may potentially overheat the engine, the government said Tuesday.

Chrysler Korea’s recall is due to a leak in the coolant hose, which could cause the coolant to seep into the car’s electrical system and possibly result in a short circuit and overheating of the engine, the Transportation Ministry said.

The affected autos are the ones imported between November 18 of last year and June 12. The recalled cars can be repaired free of charge starting Wednesday at service centers designated by the company.

In South Korea, the ministry is in charge of announcing vehicle recalls.
