Faulty Cruise Control Reason For Ford Recall

images6.jpg

A defective cruise control switch has caused concern from owners about the safety of their cars. As a result, Ford motor company is recalling 3.6 million passenger cars, trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans which contain this potentially dangerous cruise control switch.

This switch has lead to previous recalls based upon reports of fires.

This recall includes more than a dozen vehicle models built from 1992-2007. This particular cruise control device contains a speed control deactivation switch which is powered at all times. This design raised questions about the safety of the device.

Ford did not give the precise number of Ford Victoria models which have experienced fires, but it has admitted “a few reports of fire” in Ford Crown Victoria models.

Owners of the effected cars should have received recall notices starting around
August 13, 2007.

When the cars are brought back to Ford dealers, they will install a fused wiring harness into the speed control electrical system or will replace the deactivation switch, if it is found to be leaking. If you have a question about this recall, you can call Ford at
1-888-222-2751 or visit Fords website at http://www.ford.com.
